YNS New Release Blog Hop - Gretchen with Jolly
The Outlawz Alcohol Markers Anything Goes/Christmas Twist Challenge
I told you I would be back shortly. And shortly I am.
Our sponsor this month at The Outlawz Alcohol Markers group is Sami Stamps; our randomly-selected winner will receive a $12 GC to buy stamps from Sami's darling collection of digis.
It is time for our monthly Anything Goes Challenge. We also add a Christmas Twist for those of you who like to make Christmas cards throughout the year, instead of rushing like a madwoman in November/December. Like me. Now I try to take full advantage of the twist. If I was really smart, I would make a couple more each month. But I never professed to be really smart. Now where was I?
Oh, yes, I received my new Copic BG72 yesterday. A little late though. I had already photographed my card, and wasn't about to start over with my image. That's why the blending is a little odd on this for the blue-green. I was working with BG70 and BG75, and they are a bit too far apart for good blending, even with tip-to-tip. Oh well......heavy sigh.
I am not really happy with my coloring right now. That's why I signed up for one of Alyce Keegan's Copic coloring classes. I admire Alyce's coloring and design--her cards are fabulous, but her coloring is the star of each one. So, when she offered her on-line course, I felt it was a good opportunity to learn some new coloring techniques. Of course, they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, so it remains to be seen if the class will help me. For any of you who are interested, just go to Kit and Clowder for information. And, if you sign up for her Skin and Hair class before Sunday, you can take her Whimsical class for free. Good deal, huh?
This card will be my starting point for the class. I chose Saturated Canary Nikki for my image and printed her on MICBC. I am running low on this CS, so I ordered a large package of X-Press It CS from Amazon. Alyce is now using this CS for her coloring, so thought I would give it a try again. It has been a while since I used it. I used to use Cryogen also, but it will not go through my new printer, so I now save that for rubber-stamped images, (of which I do very few). I know, I know, TMI.
I colored Nikki with my Copics and Twin Touch Brush markers:

I got my color palette from my DP, Carta Bella Winter Fun--which was Zutterized and paired with Stampin' Up CS. I added some SU ribbon, Washi tape, cheesecloth, Tim Holtz Mini Paper Clips, a charm, and die cuts made with:
Memory Box Night Sky Border
Spellbinders Create a Flake 3
That's all she wrote for this episode. Stand by for another post. It is supposed to go live at 1:00 a.m. Eastern time, which means it will be live tonight at 10:00 in my MST. Which also means three posts today. You have my deepest apologies.
BTW, please stop by The Outlawz to see the inspiration by my talented teammates, Carla, Dawn, Linda, and, our newest member, Kathi. They are really worth a look! And we would love for you to play along with us. In the meantime, have a great weekend!
Jellypark Friends Things with Wings Challenge/Gina's Birthday Card
Today is Gina's birthday--Happy Birthday, Gina! May you have ever so many, many more!
And, since Gina loves the world of fairies, I had to make this card for her. It meets our challenge, for sure, (Things with Wings), but it also should make Gina smile. And who doesn't love to smile on their birthdays?
The end of another month. Can you believe it? I can't. Time just keeps marching on, to the beat of a different drummer than I would prefer. I would like it a wee bit slower, you know what I mean? Just a nice easy pace that I could keep up with. I feel really rushed these days.
Tomorrow I am going to the Rubber Stamp Show in Mesa with my sister, Barbara, and her friend, Julie. Cannot believe that it's time again for that, either. And I always manage to spend more than I need to. Anyone want to guess if I will again this weekend?
I had to buy another Copic BG72. Mine dried up, even though I have used it and filled it frequently. It was beyond repair. Gummy, no matter what I did with it. And I couldn't live without a BG 72--I use the BG 70 series a lot. I am not even going to tell you what I paid for it--to get it here el pronto. It was a pretty penny, though, no pun intended. I did not, however, have to pay for shipping, so there is that.
Onward, People. To today's card. Oh, and btw, be sure to stop by and see the new releases at Jellypark, as well as all the fabulous creations by my talented teammates. We hope to see you enter this challenge!
I used Fairy on a Flower for Gina's card--she's a real cutie, especially with those Zentangle wings. I printed her on MICBC and colored her with my Copics and a Twin Touch Brush marker:

I'm baaaaack! With my card for the reminder of Sketch #63, which was actually designed by yours truly. We are sponsored this fortnight by My Mum's Craft Shop, and our winner will receive a gift voucher worth 5 pounds.
Here is the current sketch:
I chose Saturated Canary Ski Bunny, which I printed on MICBC and colored with Copics and Twin Touch Brush markers:
Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, R20
Hair: E11, E13, E15, E18
Eyes: TTB67, TTB63, C1
Clothes: TTB67, TTB63, TTB64, C00, C0, C1, E41, E42, E43
Skis/Poles: TTB67, TTB63, TTB64, C1
I added Frantage Shabby White and Chunky White to the image background. I Zutterized my DP, (from the Authentique Journey collection and paired with Stampin' Up CS), and my image panel. To finish the card I used a Whimsy Mini Ticket die, a sentiment from the Whimsy Love Mini Tickets, and eight Stampin' Up brads.
Hope to see you join us this fortnight. Be sure to check out all the fun creations by my talented teammates! And have a great weekend!
The Outlawz Alcohol Markers Things with Wings Challenge
Happy Friday to you all! I have had my sister, Barbara, here with me this week. We have had fun creating cards in my craft room, which is just big enough for two people to work. We probably could add a third, but we would need a shoehorn to pry us out of the room when we were done.
Gary and I went out to The Deli for Valentine's Day dinner with friends, Bill and Denise, whom we haven't seen for over a year. How does the time get away from us like that? I don't understand. Anyway, the food, (mushroom salad, beef filet, crab cakes, roasted potatoes and green beans), was great. We had great fun catching up with them. After dinner we all came back to the house to eat our dessert cupcakes and drink our dessert wine and cappuccinos. It was a really nice evening.
On Sunday Gary showed off his culinary prowess by making an entire dinner for our friends, Bob and Connie. We had a delicious meal of pork tenderloin, salad, veggies and potatoes. And he even prepared a creme brulee for dessert. Yum! We shared some of our wines from our trip to southern Arizona, and B & C brought over a really good Cabernet, too. Was a great afternoon/evening of eating, drinking and yakking again.
Started this week on Monday with a trip to Chao, a very good Thai/Asian eatery in Chandler. Met my sisters, Merrilyn & Barbara, there for lunch. And then Barbara came home with me to spend the balance of the workweek here. We will go to the Crepe Bar in Tempe to meet Merrilyn for lunch today. It's a wonder I haven't gained 10 pounds this past couple of weeks, with all the wonderful eating I have been doing!
And then, tomorrow night, is a trip to La Ristra with our dinner club. Haven't tried that before, so it should be fun and, hopefully, good food!
Apparently, my life revolves around food and drink. And a bit of card-making. I really need to expand my horizons, don't I.
Well, here is one of the cards I made this week. Our theme, Things with Wings, fit perfectly with the stamp I got from Sami Stamps, our sponsor this month. One lucky, randomly-selected participant will win a $12 GC to purchase digis from Sami's darling collection of stamps.

Will be back with another post today. Lucky you.

The Outlawz Alcohol Markers Photo Inspiration Challenge/Brynn's Valentine
Happy Friday to you. I am in a good mood, (oddly enough), in spite of my sore wrist. It continues to be a problem. So I have decided to amputate it. I am not certain how this will be accomplished, but I am hoping it will eliminate my pain. If you have any other ideas, feel free to let me know. But ASAP, please. Before I mutilate myself.
Have you got a minute or twenty? This is going to take a bit of your patience to read. We took a little trip. Last Friday. To Southern Arizona. Wine country. Yum. We spent two nights outside of Elgin at a B&B animal sanctuary. Kind of an odd combination. But then Gary and I are kind of an odd combination, so it worked for us.
We started our wine tasting on Friday at Dos Cabezas Wineworks in Sonoita. And, gee willikers, did we ever have some yummy wine there! Bought several bottles. Had to. Needed to bring them back to the Valley of the Sun to prove to people that Arizona produces some really good wines.
Then we ate dinner at Overland Trout, which is just down the road from Dos Cabezas. The chef at Overland Trout, (catchy name, huh? It means bacon, btw.), used to be at Quiessence Restaurant at The Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix. (The restaurant that our dinner club went to last month.) Anyway, Greg LaPrad left Quiessence last summer to open his own place in Sonoita last fall. The restaurant itself is a little rustic, but it has a beautiful view! (First photo is Rustic Gary in the rustic restaurant. Second photo is the beautiful view--just in case you were wondering.)
Well, let me tell you that the food is really worth the trip! We started with a shared flaming cheese dip, called Queso Flameado. (Of course, yours truly couldn't get her phone camera set up fast enough to get the flaming part of the dip.) So here's what you get: asadero and queso fresco cheeses, flamed with brandy, promagranates, chorizo, and winter spices, served with tortilla chips, and pomagranate and apple salsa. 'K, there's not much healthful in this dish, but who gives a rip. It was scrumptious. So there! The dip was so luscious, the salsa refreshing, and the chips were nice and crunchy and salty. Mmmm, mmmm, good.

(First photo is Rustic Gary in the rustic restaurant. Second photo is the beautiful view--just in case you were wondering.)
Then I was in the mood for salad. And I picked a sensational one, although I did have them leave out the shaved red onion, as I am not a fan of raw onion. So it had pine nuts, pecans, arugula, baby greens, a fabulous soft cheese, and the most wonderfully sweet watermelon. I know. In the winter? How cool is that? I don't remember what was in the dressing, but it perfectly complimented the salad. And when the dish arrived, I said to myself, 'Self, there is no way you can finish that.' And my snarky self said, 'Just watch me.' And, son of a gun, I ate every bit of it! I would have licked the dish, but they took it away before I could.
Oh, btw, perhaps you can see my Margarita in the above photo. It had Mount Alban Tequila, house-made sweet and sour, Cointreau, and quince. I thought it was fantastic, but Gary wasn't wild about his. I would have had a second one, but thought that I shouldn't after I had done the wine tasting, too. Probably a sound idea on my part, for a change.
Next up, I had Pastel de Azteca, which was slow-roasted chicken, eggs, poblano pepper, pomagranates, salsa verde, panela cheese, and corn tortilla. Again, nothing really good for you, but soooo delicious! The whole dish just melted in your mouth; it was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. So who cares if it was good for me or not? I certainly didn't. And what did Gary have? Again, who cares? (Alright, he ordered the grilled pork tenderloin, which he loved.)
Of course we also had dessert. And for some odd reason, I forgot to take a photo of it. (It's called old-age.) Well, picture a plate with sliced strawberries in a warm glaze, alongside a large portion of panna cotta, made with horchata, and tasting distinctly like, of all things, horchata. Wow! It not only looked pretty--all decked out with powdered sugar--it was smooth, creamy, and slid down my gullet really fast. And if you have never had horchata, you are missing out on a really good drink--it is made of rice, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, water, and sugar. Yeah, another really healthful item. On the plus side, I only gained a pound over the 4-day weekend. (Plus side--get it?) (Nevermind.)
So then we went to our B&B and pretty much crashed for the night. It was really out in the country, which is very pretty, btw. So it was very quiet both nights we were there. Almost too quiet, if you know what I mean. We had wi-fi, but it wasn't a very strong signal, so we couldn't stream a movie on my Samsung Note, darn it. Oh, well, we were able to on Sunday night in Bisbee.
I have to mention that we went to several other wineries on Saturday. And had some more delicious Arizona wines. Whaaaaat? Yup, mostly blends, but really good ones. Loved them. And we ended up buying two cases total in the Sonoita area. From previously-mentioned Dos Cabezas, and Flying Leap, Wilhelm, Callaghan, Rancho Rossa, and Kief-Joshua. We made the mistake of going to Village of Elgin Winery--don't bother. IMHO, the wines there are just not in the same class as the other wines we tasted. Not even close.
On Sunday morning we walked around the animal sanctuary and met horses, donkeys, goats, and geese. Well, perhaps met isn't quite the right word for the geese. They were extremely agitated by us. Why I don't know. But, man, were they LOUD. Deafeningly so. Once we had the tour we were off to see Bisbee.
We drove through Fort Huachuca to get to Sierra Vista. That reminded me of Fort Benning days. Back when we were first married and Gary was still in the Army. Fort Huachuca is pretty big. And has a decent-sized town right next to it. Though I wouldn't really want to live there.
After Sierra Vista we went east and south and reached Bisbee about noon. Too early to check in to our downtown hotel. But there was an honest-to-goodness coffee shop, which was such a relief. I needed my cappuccino fix. It tasted so good after two days without having one. Certainly got spoiled with my machine, even if I did wreck my wrist using it.
A few photos of Bisbee:
We walked around town, which is really quaint. It was a mining town at one time, and according to gossip, will be again. Right now, it's a tourist trap. You know, they have lots of stuff to sell, souvenirs and the like. Which we didn't buy. 'Cuz this was a wine trip. And we even managed to buy a couple of Willcox area wines in Bisbee at the Cafe Akor. Lo and behold, they were having a wine tasting Sunday afternoon. With hors d'oeuvres. Wonderful dips, cheeses, pistachios, olives, crackers, breads! Right up our alley.
We were told that 80% of the wine grapes in AZ come from Willcox. So that will be our next trip in the state. Have to check that out, too, doncha know. Anyway, we had some really delicious wines that afternoon, and just had to buy a couple of them.
We checked into our hotel, the Letson Loft, which is exactly that. A loft--the second floor of an old downtown building. We had a room at the back of the hotel, so it was pretty quiet. Really comfy king-sized bed, lovely shower, big room. I would stay there again, if we ever get back to Bisbee.
We did try the Screaming Banshee Pizza Sunday night, which was OK as pizza goes. And we watched a movie on my Samsung Note that night--what a fabulous display! Everything was so crystal-clear. Then we had a yummy breakfast at the Bisbee Breakfast Club on Monday morning. I had fabulous Eggs Benedict with mushrooms and wonderful ham. If you like ham. Which I definitely do. Gary opted for the eggs, hash browns, sausage, and toast. He liked his breakfast, too.
Then it was check-out time, and also time to go home. We drove through Tombstone on our way back. We stopped for a bit and walked through the old-town souvenir-trap area. We didn't stay long. I really wasn't interested in a re-enactment of the gunfight at the OK Corral. We also stopped at Boot Hill and went through the graveyard. There were some funny headstones there. But there were some sad ones, too--like the ones for the three-month old girl and the 11-month old boy. The graveyard is from the 1880's, so it is pretty old for out West.
And then we drove on home, and got back about 2:00 on Monday afternoon. I was so exhausted, from getting up early all weekend, that I took a nap before we drove up to get Donovan from my sister's. I am a night-owl. 'Nuf said.
OK, if you got this far, you are probably wondering if I am ever going to describe my card. No, I'm not.
Oh, I am just kidding. This month our sponsor is Sami Stamps. And one lucky, randomly-selected participant will receive a $12 GC to purchase stamps from her shop. She has really darling digis, and I will be using one next week.
But this week I chose Make It Crafty Jessica's Teddy, so that I could make a Valentine for my younger granddaughter, Brynn, who is enamored with Build-a-Bear right now. I thought this would be a perfect image for her.
And my design is much the same as last week's Valentine for my other granddaughter. I thought that would make both girls happy. (There is usually method in my madness, though occasionally it is madness in my method.) Here is the Photo Inspiration for this week:
I printed Jessica on MICBC and colored her with my Copics:
Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, R20
Eyes: B32, B34
Hair: YR20, E31, E33, E35
Bear: R22, R24, R27, R29
Clothes: C00, C0, C1, C2
Spica Lipstick for the Bear's Eyes
My die cuts were made with the following dies:
SCACD Alice's Clock Statement Corner
Cheery Lynn Happy
Cheery Lynn Valentine's
Cheery Lynn XOXOXO
Cheery Lynn Sealed with a Kiss
That's it. Now, please do check out the fab designs by my talented teamies, Carla, Dawn, and Linda. And please join us this week! Just remember to use any brand of alcohol markers on your images.
If you are looking for a slightly bawdy, but really hysterical read, check out Kate Langdon's Famous. I laughed until I cried at several spots. But, then, I do have a strange sense of humor, so beware. Have a great weekend!

The Outlawz Alcohol Markers Valentine's Day Challenge/Kelsey's Valentine
Hi, there. Told you I'd be back today. Lucky you.
This month we have a new sponsor, Sami Stamps. Be sure to check out her shop--she has lots of fun images for coloring there! (I will be using one of her darling images later this month.) The prize will be a $12 GC awarded to a randomly-selected participant.
I printed Hello Pet on MICBC and then colored it with my Copics:

Our challenge today can be either Valentine's Day, or any love. Well, I chose the Valentine theme, but not the typical colors. I had this adorable Tiddy Inks Hello Pet image, and just had to use it for my granddaughter's Valentine--she loves all things "dragon". Purple is my favorite color for a dragon. Don't ask me why, because I couldn't tell you. I know a lot of peeps make them green. But either way, not your pink or red for the holiday. Oh well...
I printed Hello Pet on MICBC and then colored it with my Copics:
Skin; E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, R20
Hair: YR20, E31, E33, E35
Dress/Shoes: YG91, YG93, YG95, YG97
Dragons: V12, V15, V17
Leashes: BG10, BG11
A bit of Spica Clear was added to the collars and Spica Lavender was added to the claws. 'Cuz dragons need their nails polished & sparkly, don't they? Of course they do.
Then I used the following dies to finish my card:
Memory Box Macarena Corner
Cheery Lynn Happy Valentine's
Cheery Lynn Sealed with a Kiss
Cheery Lynn XOXOXO
I hate to admit this, but I almost tore this card up. Yeah, that's what happens when Penny has to re-color something over and over again. She finally gets mad and takes it out on the paper. Well, I didn't tear it up, because I didn't have enough time to completely re-do it. But suffice it to say, this is not my best coloring, and I am really disappointed in it. It is what it is. And I am what I am. I'm Popeye the sailor man. (Oh, help, get me out of here. I've been in on the computer too long!)
Do stop by and see the beautiful Valentine's created by Carla, Dawn, and Linda--really great inspiration for you! And please join us this week!
Have a great weekend. No more football, though, drat!
Friday Sketch #62 Challenge Reminder
Hi, Peeps! How are you on this fine Friday? Good, I hope. Did you enjoy the Super Bowl? Well, we did, because our division won! Yay, NFC West! I am not a Seahawks fan, for sure. But they do represent our Cardinals' division, the toughest in the NFL right now. So, for that I am happy.
We had a lovely party--lots of good food and great company. Most of our guests were cheering for the Broncos, so they were not too happy about the game. But they did enjoy the day. And they got a kick out of my version of the "Seahawks" cry. Imagine it this way: it sounded like a donkey braying. You know, like "heehaw", only "Seahawks". I expect to try that on for size the next time the 'hawks fans are at our stadium. Of course, I could be asking for trouble. So...maybe not.
I made several Cappuccinos for the party--they were quite well-received, as I had repeat customers. Which made me very happy. However, I am now an injured barista. I did so much wringing out of the microfiber cloths I use on the machine and steam wand, that I wrecked my right wrist. And, of course, I am right-handed. It is apparently getting worse each day, so that's not such a good thing. (At least it doesn't hurt to type on my ergonomic keyboard, thank goodness!) Gary wants me to go to his wrist doctor, but I don't believe I will. After all, I am not like him. I don't run to the doctor every time I feel a pain, nor do I jump at the chance to have surgery. So....
I do have some exciting news, though. Well, it's exciting for me. Not so much for you. Gary bought me a new tablet on Tuesday. Yay!!! He says it is this year's Valentine present. (Last year's gift was my Samsung phone with, unfortunately, T-Mobile service. I can hardly wait until our contract is up next year, so I can go on Verizon. Anybody else have lousy service with T-Mobile?) Anyway, I got the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet. And, though I have had almost no time to spend on it, I think I am going to love it.
It has expandable memory, unlike my iPad. And it is faster than snake-poo. Love that! Hasn't dropped me from the Internet either, which is a very good thing. And I think that the S-note feature will be one I love when I learn how to use it. Yes, this is going to tax my aging brain. But that's a good thing, according to the experts. It will help keep me young. OK, maybe not "young", but "younger".
Before I forget why I am posting, I will get to my card. Friday Sketch is sponsored this fortnight by Digi Stamp Boutique, which is giving away a gift voucher to the winner. It is worth 5 pounds, which today is approximately $8 U.S.

And that's it for this card. And for this post. (I will, however, return with my card for The Outlawz.) Please be sure to check out the wonderful inspiration by my talented Friday Sketch teamies, and then join in the fun this fortnight.
